Monthly lesson TOpics

SEPTEMBER
For the month of September, K-5 students focused on topics of Respect and Empathy to fit this month's "Back to School" theme! While we learned about how to respect others and what it looks like for others to respect us, some of our students completed a "Leaving a Legacy" activity. We talked about how we treat others is who we are and how we will be remembered. A few common responses of how they want to be remembered were respectful, genuine, unique, helpful, and good at something they're passionate about! 
Middle school students received a refresher on bullying awareness this month and how our actions can affect those around us. 8th grade students even had the opportunity to create their own bullying lesson and practice giving advice on the topic to younger students! 
October
For the month of October, Kindergarten students learned about one new emotion each week while 1-5 students learned about the topic of Bullying! This month, 5th grade students had the opportunity to complete an Among Us themed escape room. They had to find the "imposter" or the fake friend/bully through conflict resolution and bullying identification! Some of my other students played bullying jeopardy and a bullying "scoot" game and some even made anti-bullying bracelets! 
Middle school students worked on problem-solving and teamwork skills this month through completing a festive murder mystery game!
november
For the month of November, Kindergarten students finished learning how to name their emotions and manage them! 1-5 students learned about the importance of teamwork and practiced the art of gratitude to celebrate the holiday season! Some students had the opportunity to create their own "Thankful Turkey" while others wrote letters to people they're grateful for. 
Middle school students discussed the importance of leadership and how different personalities work together. 6th and 7th grade students took personality tests and related their results to which type of leadership they naturally fall into while 8th grade students researched career areas of interest and future leadership opportunities they may be interested in. 
December
For the month of December, Kindergarten through 5th grade learned about generosity! K-2 learned what it means to be generous and ways we can show generosity to others while 4th and 5th grade students created a Giving Jar where they wrote kind notes to another student! 
Middle school students had a day of suicide prevention and learned about different coping skills to use to take care of their mental health! 8th grade students even had the opportunity to create suicide prevention posters for staff to vote on! 
January
For the month of January, K-5 students learned about setting goals and what a New Year's Resolution is! Along with setting goals, we practiced the art of growth mindset and telling ourselves kind things when we make mistakes! 
Middle school students have started their college and career exploration unit! 6th grade students are researching colleges and institutions local to Kansas, 7th grade students are creating a presentation about a career field they show interest in, and 8th grade students have started creating their own online portfolios! 
February
February was kindness month! K-5 students learned ways to be kind to their minds and take care of themselves as well as the importance of being kind to others. 
Middle school students continued work on their college and career exploration projects! 
march
For the month of March, our K-5 students started learning about different career fields. 2nd grade learned about Robotics and Automation and even designed their own robots while 4th grade learned all about what it takes to be a restaurant manager by creating their own lemonade stand! Students created their menus, their recipes, and even worked on advertisement and marketing strategies! 
Middle school students presented on their college and career exploration projects!
